I remember from a walking holiday in the Lake District that there’s something very satisfying about coming across a pub after a long period of being wet and miserable and finding an open fire, a hot meal and a pint to recuperate with. It very quickly restores you to a feeling of happiness and being generally at peace with the world.
Today I discovered that this can be simulated with a knackered old storage heater, a portion of chili and rice and a polystyrene cup of tea.
